Belknaps (post-1600 Belknaps), whose relationship to the family of Sir Robert
Belknap is presently unknown. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
| Common family lore states that the surname Belknap "died
out" in England within a few generations following the emigration to
Massachusetts in America of Abraham Belknap (f/k/a Beltoft). That the surname Belknap did not die out
with the death of Sir Edward Belknap or the emigration of Abraham Belknap is
clear from the number of later references to individuals in England surnamed
Belknap, Bellknap, Bellknapp, Bellnap, Bellnapp, Belnapp, Belnap, etc. |

|
|
| The surname survived in England at least until 1901 (see
"Alice Bilnap" below). |
|
|
|
|
|
|
